Randy Scott - Saxophone

Solo Recording Artist

“I just walked in from my performance, and I had to tell you (without delay) that your reeds are awesome!!!”

(This is the first line of an unsolicited email from Randy, sent to us shortly after we sent a few trial reeds to him. More quotes below.)

Young sax player Randy Scott is the three-time winner of the nationally televised, “It’s Showtime At The Apollo”, and winner of the Cognac Hennesy Jazz Search.   He has just released his third solo CD, entitled “Words Unspoken”.  With the focus on the radio single, "Lost in the Moment", "Words Unspoken" has risen to the Top 50 on Smooth Jazz nationally. Randy is the protégé of the late Grover Washington, Jr., and has performed and/or recorded with Hiroshima, Nancy Wilson, Fred Hammon, Michael Powell, The Clark Sisters, Men of Standard, Kirk Franklin, Norman Brown, Ronnie Laws, Marion Meadows and many other artists on almost every major record label.  He has his own music production company and recording studio, and records, writes, produces, and teaches music in the Detroit area.

Here is what Randy had to say:

I just walked in from my performance, and I had to tell you (without delay) that your reeds are awesome!!!  The most impressive aspect of your reeds is the warmth that is achieved with the synthetic material that you use.  Most of the plastic reeds or plastic coated reeds that I’ve tried seem to be loud and uncontrollable.  Your reeds, especially the alto sax reed, truly resemble the sound that I get from cane reeds.

As a middle school band director, I will highly recommend Légère Reeds to my students.  They have the warm sound of cane and the durability that is needed for such young players. Despite the countless times I have stressed the importance of handling reeds with care, I sometimes sell new reeds to the same students within minutes of their initial purchase.  Légère reeds seem to stand up to the abuse of beginning band students, while maintaining such a warm/rich sound.
