Saxophonist - Conductor

Koen Dries (1986) is a Belgian saxophone player and conductor. He obtained a masters degree in saxophone and conducting at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels under the direction of professor Norbert Nozy. Koen is currently employed as a Phd researcher with the FWO and he also works as assistant professor of saxophone at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
As a soloist, Koen obtained prizes at national and international competitions. He was a laureate of the VLAMO soloist competition, Dexia Classics and the saxophone competition for young saxophone players in Dinant. He was awarded with a scholarship for young talents from the Flemish Government and obtained the prize “Ingeborg Köberle” from the conservatory for his exceptional study results at the conservatory of Brussels.
Koen Dries performed as a soloist with the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphonic Concert Band of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and Nuevo Musiche. In addition to this, Koen represented Belgium at the World Saxophone Congresses in St. Andrews (2012) and Strasbourg (2015).
During the next two concert seasons (2015-2017), Koen will be performing concertos with the Royal Band of the Belgian Airforce and Symphonia Assai. In 2017, the year of his Phd defense, he will release his first cd recording as a saxophone soloist.
As a conductor Koen has conducted, among many others, the Royal Orchestra of the Belgian Guides, the Brussels Wind Ensemble, the Symphonic Concert Band of the Conservatory of Brussels and the Chamber Orchestra of Limburg. Currently he is residing conductor with several amateur bands and conducts regularly as a guest conductor with various ensembles and orchestras.
