Professionals As a professional musician, you rely on your instrument, and as a woodwind player, your reputation depends on your sound. Steve Cohen recently wrote an article for The Clarinet, in which he interviewed seven prominent professional musicians who use Légère reeds. They talk about how they use the reeds, how often they rotate them, etc. View the complete text of the article by clicking here. If you still have any doubts that you can find your sound with a Légère Reed, listen to Manhantten Echoes by James Campbell, one of Canada's premier clarinet soloist and recording artists. Then, try a Légère reed on your setup. Doublers have special requirements. Légère reeds do not have to be kept wet, and thus are perfect for doublers. We make reeds for a wide range of clarinet and saxophones, so we can satisfy the needs of most doublers. Some professionals might worry about the stigma of playing a synthetic reed. We hope that fairly soon, our reeds will be widely accepted by the professional community. In the meantime, we can only point out that we have received many emails such as the following one from Bryan Guidry of the US Air Force Band. "I am a clarinetist in the US Air Force Band and when we heard of our colleague winning the Navy audition on one of your reeds, we promptly ordered a shipment for our band. I am a skeptic when it comes to synthetic items for clarinet (barrels, reeds, etc), but I thought I would give them a go. I loved them, and couldn't believe it (I still don't). One day before rehearsal began, I was warming up and the woodwind manager walked by. He complimented my reed and I promptly turned the horn around so he could see what I was using. I wish I had a camera so I could take a picture of the look of horror on his face. It was one I will never forget. He couldn't believe he liked something plastic! I have used your reeds for performances ranging from country singer Bryan White to ceremonies involving the Chief of Staff of the Air Force and many other 'big wigs' in the country. I am a traditionalist when it comes to clarinet and I have converted much of the section to your reeds. Thanks again and keep up the good work." Bryan Guidry |
