Artur Mendes
He was born in Figueira da Foz in 1986 and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree, a Master’s Degree in Performance Saxophone and a Master’s Degree in Music Teaching at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa.
He was awarded in several Saxophone Contests and performed in concerts in Portugal, Spain, Germany, Czech Republic, Brazil and Taiwan.
He performed as a soloist with the Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras, with the Banda do Exército do Porto, with the Orquestra de Câmara da Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) and with the Banda Sinfónica da GNR (of which he has been a member since 2008) . He also collaborated with the Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa, with the Orquestra Ginásio Ópera, with the Orquestra Clássica de Espinho, with the Orquestra Sinfónica de Cascais, with the Orquestra Gulbenkian, among others.

He has collaborated with several composers in the creation and dissemination of a new repertoire with Saxophone, counting on several premieres and dedications of composers such as Nelson Jesus, Christian Lauba, Ida Gotkovsky, Baljinder Sekhon II, Mischa Zupko, António Victorino D’Almeida, Iryna Brazhnik, Alexandre Almeida, etc.
Always interested in Chamber Music, he integrates the AiDuo group with the pianist Iryna Brazhnik (with whom he recorded the album “On the way…” in 2006) and the Tejo Quartet (Saxophone Quartet).
He was a saxophone teacher at the National Conservatory’s Music School, at the Jaime Chavinha Music Conservatory in Minde, at the Canto Firme Music Conservatory in Tomar and guided Masterclasses and Workshops all over the country, Czech Republic and Brazil.
In addition to his activity in Classical Music, Artur Mendes has collaborated with the most diverse projects in the areas of Fado, Musical Theater, among others.
