Javier Llopis
International soloist, professor at the Tenerife Professional Conservatory of Music, assistant clarinetist at the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, artistic director of the Tenerife Clarinet Fest and founder of the Pícolo Clarinet International Academy.
Born in Cullera (Valencia), he began his musical studies at the S.M.I. Santa Cecilia de Cullera and he continues them in the Conservatories of Valencia and Tenerife, obtaining the Honor Awards in Clarinet (Elementary, Professional and Bachelor) and in Chamber Music (Professional and Bachelor). Later he expanded his clarinet and chamber music studies in Spain, France, Germany and Austria, with Alois Brandhofer, Alfred Prinz, Karl Leister, Bertram Egger, Eric Hoeprich, Wenzel Fuchs and Thomas Friedli.
Javier is internationally recognized as one of the pioneers and most outstanding clarinetists today, both for the dissemination of the Picolo Clarinet as a solo instrument, and for the research and development dedicated to this instrument. He has performed concerts as a requinto soloist in Spain, France, Austria, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Germany, Slovenia, Belgium, Brazil, Uruguay and the USA, premiering works that have enriched the scarce existing repertoire for this small instrument. This has allowed him to work with important composers such as Saul Gómez Soler, Martínez Gallego, Jose Manuel Encinoso, Alexander Mullenbach, Simon Milton, Cesar Cuellar, Jose Manuel Fernández, Laura Vega, David Menent, Milena Perisic and Nino Díaz among others.
Regarding the research and development of the picolo clarinet, he has been one of the designers of the D’addario Reserve reeds, has developed his own JLL model mouthpiece, constantly develops innovations together with the Ember Woodwinds brand and is currently participating in the first piccolo clarinet prototype together with the Backun Musical Services brand.
He has composed various works for requinto, in which Gloom stands out, and the Variations on Cançons de Mare.Javier is also regularly invited to give master classes in Europe and Latin America, including the University of Joao Pessoa, the Metropolitan Academy of Lisbon, Karol Szymanowski of Katowice, Clarinetto Academy of Italy, Katarina Gurska in Madrid, Alcohete Festival, Festival of Koszecin, Xacobeo Festival, Gran Canaria Festival, Los Angeles Clarinet Fest, etc.
His teachings have produced prize winners in important national and international competitions, including Tenerife Clarinet Fest, Gran Canaria International Competition, Villa de Agaete International Competition, Ciudad de Ourense, Orihuela International Competition, Italian Clarinet Academy, Rising Stars Grand Prix of Berlin, Grand Prize Virtuoso from Salzburg and Golden Classical Music Awards from the USA.
He is regularly invited to participate as a jury in international competitions, including the International Clarinet Competition “Saverio Mercadante” (Italy), I.CA High Scholl Clarinet Competition (Los Angeles and Madrid), Tenerife Clarinet Fest, Gran Canaria International Competition, International Competition Villa de Agaete and Silverstein Global Clarinet Competition.
As a chamber musician he has been a member of groups such as the Amadeus Quintet, Di Bassetto Quartet, Trio Janai, Duo Ébano, Santa Cecilia Clarinet Octet. Since 2011 he has formed a duo with the pianist Mara Jaubert.
He has been Solo Clarinet of the Santa Cecilia de Cullera Symphony Orchestra, of the Isla de La Palma Symphony Orchestra, of the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, Solo Clarinet of the Municipal Symphony Band of Gran Canaria, Soloist Requinto of the Tenerife Symphony Band (currently on leave), founder of the Union and Friendship Band of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, professor at the Conservatory of Music of Tenerife, professor at the Los Realejos School of Music and professor at the Katarina Gurska Superior Center in Madrid.
Javier is an Backun, Gleichweit Mouthpieces and Eddie Daniels Ligatures artist.
