Endorsing Artists

Tang Xiao Ping began learning the clarinet at the age of nine. He was enrolled at the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing, China in 1983. Two years later, he won third prize in the Beijing Youth Clarinet Competition. He graduated with high grades and was accepted into the Central Opera Theatre Symphony Orchestra as their Principal Clarinettist. In 1994, he was accepted into the School for the Arts at Boston University where he studied with Dr. Ethan Sloane and earned his Artist Diploma. He was also Principal Clarinettist with the University Symphony Orchestra. In the following year, he was nominated as the most outstanding student in the University and this won him a Dean’s Scholarship. Tang joined the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) in 1995.

With the SSO, he successfully performed the renowned Clarinet Concerto in A by Mozart in 1996. In 2006 and 2009, Tang was invited to perform in Shanghai and Beijing Worldwide Chinese Artists New Year’s Concert as part of an orchestra formed by professional Chinese musicians from all over the world. As a soloist, Tang was also invited to join the Singapore Arts Festival in 2004 and 2006. His unique style has won acclaim from musicians and conductors all over the world. He also performs chamber works with the SSO and is an outstanding performer on the saxophone. He was invited by the former Director of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra to perform Chinese Rhapsody No. 3, written by Chinese composer Huang An Lun, on the saxophone. Apart from his regular performances, Tang also teaches the clarinet and saxophone at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, School of The Arts Singapore and the Singapore National Youth Orchestra
