Australian jazz saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist and composer

Touring with Cirque du Soleil’s big top show ‘VOLTA’

“I’ve been playing Légère Signature Series synthetic reeds since 2010 and have been continually impressed by their playability, longevity and responsiveness throughout the entire range of the instrument. As a touring musician, being able to use a brand‐new Légère reed straight out of the pack under any weather condition and knowing that it will play consistently 100% of the time allows me to concentrate on my performance and completely eliminates the inconvenience of temperamental and inconsistent cane reeds. I feel excited and privileged to be part of the Légère Reeds family and I highly recommend them to all saxophonists and clarinetists – once you’ve discovered how good they are for yourself, you’ll never go back to cane reeds again!” – Benjamin Harrison

Benjamin began performing in musical productions at a young age, beginning studies on piano and violin before picking up the saxophone at the age of nine. After having been accepted into a special- interest music school in Australia on a scholarship, Benjamin received the opportunity to perform and tour nationally and internationally with several multi-award-winning classical, jazz and choral ensembles—including a tour of China as an Australian cultural ambassador in 2003. During this period, Benjamin also achieved several other accolades including selection at the national “Generations in Jazz” competition playing saxophone in 2004, and as a pianist the following year.

In 2007, Benjamin began studies at the Elder Conservatorium of Music and graduated the following year with a Bachelor of Music Performance, specializing in Jazz Saxophone, after being fast-tracked through the course. During his studies, Benjamin held the 1st tenor saxophone chair in the Downbeat magazine award-winning Big Band One, and in 2008, received the Australian dB Magazine award for Top Undergraduate Saxophone.

Throughout 2009, Benjamin worked as a video producer and session musician at an international publishing house playing keyboards and bass guitar, while also playing and recording on the local scene with various ensembles, including leading his own jazz trio and quartet on saxophone. In early 2010, Benjamin was short-listed in the MAX Tropscore competition at the Tropfest International Film Festival and from late 2010 through to mid-2012, toured North America playing saxophone and keyboards, and as acting bandleader with Cirque du Soleil’s arena show ‘Quidam’.

As of 2014, Benjamin has toured with Cirque du Soleil’s big top show ‘KOOZA’ playing saxophone, keyboard, electric guitar, clarinet, tin whistles and duduk. Benjamin continues to tour with Cirque du Soleil, now playing for their new show "VOLTA".

In addition to Légère Reeds Ltd., Benjamin is also a P. Mauriat endorsed artist and plays a PMXT-66R unlacquered tenorsaxophone.
