Principle Clarinetist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra

Yue Ma was born in Beijing. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Music from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing in 1984.

In 1993, Mr. Ma received an Artist Diploma from the Musikhochschule in Zurich, Switzerland.

He was Assistant Professor of Clarinet at Central Conservatory of Music in 1984. At the same time, he was Principal Clarinetist of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Since 2003 he joined the Artist Faculty of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music of the National University of Singapore as a teacher of Clarinet.

Prior to joining the Singapore Symphony Orchestra as Principal Clarinetist, Mr. Ma was Principal Clarinetist and Assistant Conductor at the University of Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

He was also a member of the Alarida Octet, and was Second Clarinet in the Tuscaloosa Symphony. He has been a member of the Zurich Opera House Symphony Orchestra, as well.

In 2002-2003 Mr. Ma has also been performing actively with the China Philharmonic Orchestra as Guest Principal Clarinetist.

Prizes won by Yue Ma include the First Prize in the Kiwanis Clarinet Competition in 1990, and Second Prize in the People's Republic of China National Clarinet Competition in 1982 and 1983.
